If you will notice, all candidates have long hair. I'm not only referring to miss universe but as other international pageants. And are there any beauty queens who were crowned with short hair? Short hair like Natalie Portman's at V for Vendetta or Mia Farrow of Rosemary's Baby or even Renee-like haircut of Antm cycle 8...

I doubt there is a rule, but because long hair is one of those things that's a part of "conventional beauty," it's what's seen most often in beauty pageants.

I remember one of the previous miss universe was bold (without any single hair) and she won but I don't know her name or nationality..

I think longer hair appears more feminine so thats what you see the contestants wearing. Plus you can do more w/ longer hair (put it up, roll it ). I think women w/ shorter hair are viewed more as being "sporty" than "beautiful".

I don't think there are any specific regulations....long hair just tends to be more feminine. This year's Miss Italy has short hair....I think she was one of the only candidates with short hair, too.
