Our puppy ran through a bush with burrs and they stuck to his long hair so badly, he had to have it

He's a bichon/shih-tzu puppy mix, and today, he got caught in and then ran through a burr bush. There were so many burrs, fur above his eyes was matted down to cover his eyes. (he has long hair) We tried to get the burrs out with no success. We immediately took him to a groomer, who shaved all his fur off. He now looks, obviously, incredibly skinnier than before, and is almost unrecognizable-though, thankfully, his eyes were unhurt. Anyway, what I'm wondering is, how long will it take for his hair to grow back to the length it was?

Thanks.

My dog is a Schnauzer and when we moved house a couple of years ago we took him to have his hair cut. He is supposed to have bushy eyebrows, a beard and longer hair on his legs but they shaved his hair off all over! He looked so skinny and unrecognisable as well. I was quite annoyed that they had done this. It took approx 2/3 months for his hair to grow back to how it should have been.

About a year. I asked my Dog groomer brother.

Depending on how long his hair was and what # blade they used.... If they clipped it with a #10 or #7 and you want it to grow back to about a inch or longer, it's gonna take 3-4 months. In the meantime make sure your dog does not get sunburnt.

I shave my dog every summer and it takes about 3-4 months for it to grow back to almost full-length (and it's a chow mix so that's a lot of hair).

itll be completely back in about a year.

as long as your puppy is ok it doesnt matter how he looks, right?

Hi, i had to shave my cockerspaniel/sheepdog, last summer. She had so many knots in her, even with all the brushing i did. It took her about 2months to get her hair back. She did look a little funny to me to. But hey crap happens, and now i can groom her myself. Just don't make fun of him, dogs have feelings too. I don't know where you live, but maybe put a small t-shirt on him to help keep him warm.

Awww! It will probably take atleast two to three months for it all to grow back long.
